Julian Tuwim: from the song to the epic poem
Keywords:
Tuwim, Polish poetry, song, epic poem, Polish popular musicAbstract
Julian Tuwim (1894-1953), one of the most Polish poet, was the member of the 20th-century group of Polish writers called Skamander. His poetry was very lyrical and musical – like the song. In his vision music is like cosmic energy, power of life and rhythm of existence. Tuwim was not the epic poet, after all he wrote (during the Second World War, mainly in Brazil) long poem Kwiaty polskie (Polish Flowers), but it’s rather “quasi epos” than the poem similar to the patterns of the Iliad and the Odyssey or Virgil’s Aeneid.
