Abstract

The parametric evaluation of scientific journals is an important part of the evaluation system of scholars and scientific organizations (research institutes and university departments) in Poland. On the list of scientific journals, including their point score, published by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, are three parts: part A, including scientific journals having an accounted Impact Factor in Journal Citation Reports (over 10 thousand journals); part B, covering mostly Polish journals without Impact Factor; and part C, including journals listed in the European Reference Index for the Humanities (ERIH). This paper presents a concise overview of the evaluation of journals done by the group headed by the author of this article, which was established by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education. The author explains the main principles of the present evaluation of journals, the difficulties with fulfilling the task, and expected directions of the modification of the evaluation principles.
