Abstrakt

The aim of this paper is to present and discuss the main directions of the evolution of the social sciences, the multifunctionality of social sciences and their role in solving development problems in contemporary world. The author will also explain why the role and significance of the social sciences are underestimated. This attitude is illustrated by the low financing of social research in Poland and in the European Union. In order to change this situation it is necessary to intensify the activity and the innovativeness of social science researchers, together with institutions and people involved in the administration and financing of research and development.
