Whether intelligentsia transforms itself into middle class?

Abstract

Using data from research carried out on national samples I attempt to determine whether intelligentsia in Poland adopts social attributes of the middle class. In order to  establish this question I compare over time standard of life, attributes of market positions, political attitudes, participation in protests, lifestyle and class identifications. This analysis shows that, objectively, representatives of intelligentsia become experts, professionals, and specialists although it does not necessarily mean that ethos and style of intelligentsia takes over patterns of the middle class in Western societies.
