A wise man from Wierzenica. On 200th anniversary of birth of August Cieszkowski

Abstract

The jubilee of bicentennial of birth of August Cieszkowski, celebrated on 12 September 2014, is a good occasion to remind this important Polish personality of many talents, who is relatively little known in Poland nowadays, and even less so abroad. Accomplishments of Cieszkowski, in the domains of philosophy, economy, political sciences, and education have influenced, and continue to influence, generations of thinkers in several countries of Europe. This paper contains information on the multiple activities of Cieszkowski and illustrates his European dimension.
