Types of talent in science
Abstract
Scientific research belongs to that particular sphere of human activity in which, in order to achieve significant results, one must, above all else, possess above average talent. It can be said with complete conviction that those scholars who have achieved such results possessed this talent. Some of them demonstrated this talent as early as their youth, whilst others did so in later life. I classify the former as naturally gifted. The latter, however, I classify as those with a talent born of a sudden realisation. In these reflections, I cite examples of both types. What they have in common is their struggle with the obstacles that arise on their life and academic paths. Overcoming these obstacles may also serve as a measure of these scholars’ talents.
