School of Retired Scholars at Adam Mickiewicz University. A unique scientific and educational institution
Abstract
The School of Retired Scholars (Szkoła Nestorów) at Adam Mickiewicz University has been very active for several years now. The School was organized and run by two scientists, professor Kazimierz Przyszczypkowski and doctor Izabela Cytlak. This unique institution systematically hosts academic lectures by mature scientists with the most outstanding competences. So far, the School's organizers, Kazimierz Przyszczypkowski and Izabela Cytlak, have prepared three volumes of collections of lectures delivered at this School. The first two are called “Lectures of the Retired Scholars”: Retired Scholars University, 2019; University. A Community of Diversity and Difference, 2021; University. Open spaces of discourses, 2023 (all published by AMU Publishing House). Lectures given by the retired scholars of science take place every month, gathering about 200 participants – scientists from various fields and academic youth, and are recorded and broadcasted on YouTube. The author of the article discusses and analyzes these collective books against the background of other research, studies and interdisciplinary debates. The discussion proves that the School of Retired Scholars at the Adam Mickiewicz University is a unique academic institution in Poland implementing Humboldt's idea of a university.
