Remarks on evaluation of scientific journals

Abstract

This paper formulates several critical remarks about the evaluation procedure of scientific journals, particularly in social sciences and the humanities. In particular, it is pointed out that procedures in question overlook the actual substantial quality of journals and take into account purely quantitative factors frequently depending on accidental circumstances. The author claims that parametric evaluations should be consulted with specialists in given fields.
