Abstract

In a letter written in 1950 to a Deputy Minister of Education, Stanisław Ossowski (1989-1963), an eminent sociologist, called the Ministry’s attention to very low salaries earned by young scientists at Polish universities and to a negative impact of the contemporary higher education reform on the development of scientific research. Ossowski’s criticism resembles the present debate on the academic education and science in Poland.
