Abstract

Obtaining a state of being an individual is an important personal goal. On the other hand, there are researches showing that humans quit reaching it and they prefer to be an object but not an agent. For example, studies on gambling, hyper-compliance in religious extremism groups, need
for social acceptance leading to hyper-conformity, emotional dependency, or acts of mercenary, and sexual objectification show how and when people become objects. Thus, giving up one’s individuality seems to satisfy some important psychological needs. In this article immediate and delayed outcomes of this process are presented. Moreover, it is discussed what type of situations and what personality traits facilitate the process of individuality surrendering.
