Professor Marianna Grunberg-Manago, prominent French biochemist with distinguished international career die in Paris on January 3rd, 2013. Together with Severo Ochoa she discovered the enzyme polynucleotide phosphorylase which played the crucial role in deciphering the genetic code at the beginning of 1960s. In 1985 she was elected to be President of the International Union of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, IUBMB. Since 1997 she was a foreign member of Polish Academy of Sciences. As a great friend of Poland she visited Poland many times actively participating in scientific life here.
