Workaholism – the cognitive-behavioral psychotherapeutic model
Keywords:
workaholism, antecedents of work addiction, cognitive-behavioral model of workaholismAbstract
The paper presents the results of ten years research on workaholism in Poland and their practical application in the form of the cognitive-behavioral model of workaholism. Based on the empirical results the following theoretical issues were formulated: (1) conception of personality antecedents of workaholism, (2) family antecedents of workaholism and (3) conceptualization of workaholism as work addiction – Work Craving Theory. The Work Craving Scale (WCS) was designed to measure work addiction. The elaborated cognitive-behavioral model of workaholism appears to provide an optimal choice for counsellors to consider in helping workaholic clients and might be useful for developing interventions and preventions programs.
