Growing into Morality In Memory of Father Professor Andrzej Szostek
Abstract
Father Professor Andrzej Szostek (1945–2026), who passed away at the end of July of this year, was a well-known ethicist in philosophical circles who had been associated with the John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin since the beginning of his academic career. For many years, he headed the Department of Ethics in the Faculty of Philosophy, and due to his administrative roles—as vice-rector and later rector of the John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin, as well as a member of the National Science Center (NCN) Council and numerous other bodies — he became deeply involved in the Polish academic community, even among scholars who did not necessarily share his worldview. He is remembered by them as an excellent speaker and a brilliant debater. In his scholarly work, he focused primarily on issues of general ethics: the justification of norms, the foundations of ethical personalism, and the problem of conscience.
