Abstrakt


This contribution reviews surface and ground water resources of Poland and their use, with focus on their spatial and temporal distribution. Geographic background of freshwater resources in Poland is discussed. Water resources assessment is reported, with particular focus on renewable freshwater resources. Water use in various economic sectors is discussed, therein municipal, agricultural, and industrial water use. Water use in energy sector is also examined, including non-consumptive water use.  Long-term variability of water resources and their use is illustrated. Projections for the future are presented, accounting effects of climate change (anthropogenic global warming caused by enhanced greenhouse gas emissions, demographic changes and prospective needs of major economic sectors.
